The Phillies acquired right fielder John Bowker from the Pirates on Wednesday for a player to be named or cash, adding a left-handed hitter to their bench, according to an ESPN.com report.
Royals Trade Treanor To Rangers
The Royals announced today that the club has traded catcher Matt Treanor to the Texas Rangers in exchange for cash considerations.
Treanor, 35, has missed the last 29 games after suffering a concussion on July 30 in Cleveland. He has played seven games in a rehab assignment for Double-A Northwest Arkansas, batting .263 with five RBI.
Acquired by the Royals from the Rangers on March 28, 2011, the catcher hit .226 with six doubles, three home runs, 21 RBI and 24 runs scored in 65 games for Kansas City.
Pirates Trade Matt Diaz To Braves
The Pirates have traded outfielder Matt Diaz to the Braves in exchange for a player to be named or cash considerations.
Diaz, 33, was signed as a free agent on December 14 and hit .259 (56-for-216) with 12 doubles and 19 RBI in 100 games with Pittsburgh this season.
Diaz returns to Atlanta, where he played the previous five seasons (2006-2010).
Thome Traded Back To Cleveland
Jim Thome accepted a trade from the Twins on Thursday night to return to the Indians, the team he started with and one hoping its career home run leader can help it run down the first-place Tigers in the AL Central, according to an ESPN.com report.
D-Backs, Jays Swap Second Baseman
The Diamondbacks have traded second baseman Kelly Johnson to the Blue Jays for infielders Aaron Hill and John McDonald
Johnson, eligible for free agency after the season, has struggled at the plate this year, hitting .209 with 132 strikeouts and 18 homers.
Hill, who will fill Johnson's spot at second, is hitting .225 but was second among all second basemen with 62 homers from 2009-10.
McDonald is expected to help Willie Bloomquist at shortstop with Stephen Drew on the DL with a broken right ankle. McDonald hit .250 in 65 games with Toronto this season.
Tigers, Mariners Finalize Ruffin Trade
The Tigers have sent minor league reliever Chance Ruffin to the Mariners to complete a July 30 trade.
Detroit obtained starter Doug Fister and reliever David Pauley from Seattle in exchange for Ruffin, reliever Charlie Furbush and minor league third baseman Francisco Martinez.
Ruffin, the 48th pick in the 2010 draft, has pitched as a minor league closer.
Rockies Get Pomeranz To Complete Jimenez Deal
The Rockies have officially acquired Drew Pomeranz, completing their trade with the Indians for pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez.
Because a player can't be traded within a year of his signing, Pomeranz, a left-hander, wasn't allowed to join the Rockies organization until Wednesday.
Pomeranz was part of the five-player package that Cleveland sent to Colorado last month.
Twins Get Oliveros In Young Deal
The Twins have completed their trade with the Tigers by acquiring right-hander Lester Oliveros.
Minnesota announced the move on Tuesday, one day after sending outfielder Delmon Young to Detroit for minor league left-hander Cole Nelson and a player to be named later.
Astros Get Prospect To Complete Pence Deal
The Astros have completed their July 30 trade with the Phillies.
Houston selected 19-year-old outfielder Domingo Santana as the player to be named later in the deal that sent All-Star outfielder Hunter Pence to Philadelphia.
Santana batted .269 in 96 games at Class A Lakewood, with 29 doubles, four triples, seven home runs, 32 RBIs and four stolen bases.
